Rehearsal Schedule

Rehearsals during the season (approximately Sept. through May) are on Sundays from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.at Trinity Memorial Church located at 44 Main Street in Binghamton. In the week before a concert, one can expect extra rehearsals, including at least one dress rehearsal.

Section leaders are responsible for keeping track of attendance, and all members are expected to be at every rehearsal unless there is an illness, or other family emergency. Faithful attendance allows the Choir to perform our music at the highest standard for the enjoyment of our audiences.

Rehearsals are led by Dr. Bruce Borton, with Jean Herman Henssler as accompanist. There is a 15 min. break during each rehearsal, and occasionally there will be “breakout” sectional rehearsals.

Repertoire

Repertoire ranges from Renaissance motets to 21st century composers such as Eric Whitacre, John Tavener and Philip Lawson. Singers are encouraged to study their music during the week so that rehearsals can quickly go beyond learning notes.

Scores are provided to members free of charge, and members are expected to bring their music with them every week, with a pencil to mark director’s notes. Music should be kept in a simple black folder for rehearsals and performances.

Concerts

Major concerts are usually three times per year, and smaller concerts may occur during the year using all or part of the Madrigal Choir members. We have recently performed some outreach concerts, with singing at the Broome County Jail being one in 2019.

Attire for concerts changes with each concert. Sometimes we wear Renaissance costumer, and sometimes we wear all black, with men in tuxes.

Dues

Members pay annual dues of $50.00 to help cover the cost of music, and other related expenses. If a member is unable to pay the dues, they may speak to a Board member about lowering or waiving their dues. For the 2021-2022 season, ALL DUES ARE WAIVED.
