Artistic Director Search

          Founding Director Anne Boyer Cotten has announced she will retire after the November, 2010 "Lessons and Carols for Christmas" concert. Some members of our group have sung with Anne for more than 30 years! It is an understatement that Anne will be greatly missed by our singers and by our community.
          The Board of Directors of the Madrigal Choir of Binghamton has announced a search for a new part time Artistic Director to lead our ensemble into the next phase of our growth. Prospective candidates will find it helpful to review the Artistic Director's job description as well as the choir's mission statement and profile.

Qualifications for Artistic Director
The ideal candidate for Artistic Director will

     • have a Master’s Degree in Music or substantial equivalent experience
     • have significant experience as a choral singer and demonstrated knowledge and mastery of choral vocal technique
     • have demonstrated experience directing adult SATB a cappella choirs
     • have depth of knowledge of music theory
     • have experience in successful planning and execution of concerts
     • give evidence of broad knowledge of choral music repertoire
     • give evidence of creativity, flexibility, and innovation
     • be willing to collaborate with other community musical, artistic, and cultural organizations
     • demonstrate superior rehearsal techniques and effective use of rehearsal time
     • demonstrate superior conducting skills

In addition, the ideal candidate will

     • communicate effectively
     • inspire, motivate, and challenge singers to grow artistically
     • demonstrate excellent organizational, planning, and leadership skills
     • appreciate and respect the traditions of the Madrigal Choir of Binghamton

The following additional skills will be helpful:

     • advanced keyboard skills
     • foreign language familiarity (pronunciation)

Application Requirements
Interested applicants should submit the following by March 1, 2010:

     • Letter of interest
     • Resume and work history or curriculum vitae
     • Names, addresses and telephone numbers of two professional references and one volunteer singer reference
     • Two different concert program booklets (copies acceptable) representative of typical concerts
     • Audio recording, on CD, of a concert performance (Preferred, if available: A DVD recording of a concert performance)
     • A proposed program for a 90-minute non-holiday concert with a theme

     • Deadline for application: Mar 1, 2010
     • Telephone Interviews: May 2010
     • Interviews with semi-finalists: Summer 2010
     • Finalists prepare audition concerts: Jan-Feb 2011 or Mar-Apr 2011
     • Selection of New Director: May 2011
     • New Director begins: Oct 2011
